For this weeks read, I want to share more of the concepts behind positive psychology with you all. As mentioned a few weeks ago, this is a topic I am extremely passionate about and it forms a great foundation within my coaching practice. Unlike traditional psychology which focuses on past experiences, positive Psychology is the study of what makes us happy and focuses on the future and what we can do to enable a greater sense of fulfilment and happiness.

Let's talk empowerment; 'The process of becoming stronger and more confident in your action's'. In this week's read, i want to give you a two step task (No, it's not a dance task), it's an easy task to take away which will support you in feeling empowered.

Instead of experiencing that sudden overwhelm at work or perhaps boredom on a day to day, let's work on overcoming that and help you feel empowered and motivated to move forward and grow.  Step One - Start with some (quick) positive reflection

I know it sounds simple, but it's true. When we think from a positive headspace, we're more likely and able to take positive actions. Starting your day or week with some positive reflection about yourself and your skills is a great place to start. Use the below prompts to help…

  • What's been going well for you recently?

  • What has this provided you with and how has it helped?

  • What have you done particularly well at?

  • What skills did you use to succeed?

Step Two - Identify your future challenges & goalsNow use the answers from your reflection and then identify what challenges you currently have coming up and what goals you want to work towards. Write down what it is about these future goals or challenges you find tricky or perhaps why you want to avoid them. Then, look back at your positive reflection and identify the key skills you can apply (transfer) to the future goal's. Summary:When new challenges come your way, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and before you know it, your limiting belief's quickly take over. Instead of getting worked up and telling yourself, you can't do something, take the time to re-cap on your past experience and remind yourself of your skill's and ability to achieve what you set out. I hope you found this task useful.
