This weeks read is a short, sharp reminder, that’s designed to get you to re think the stories you tell yourself and enable you to start the week with a clear head.

Following on from my recent Instagram story, whereby I shared what's been happening in my world with regard to my 'internal dialogue and personal stories'. I wanted to expand a little on this topic and remind you that our subconscious mind truly is a powerful storage unit that will not only test us but will also try to get the better of us.

Essentially, my mind has been playing tricks on me since January and my subconscious mind has pretty much taken me for a fool in an area of my life that I really enjoy (Running). To summarise, post head injury in January 22', I battled with running. For the best part of 4-5 months, I told myself time and time again; that going for a run resulted in a headache. However, this week, I decided enough was enough! 🙅🏽‍♀️

I put my big girl pants on… And my favourite running shorts ✌️and decided to get out and do the distance. I prepared a playlist, a route to take and said to myself ‘slow and steady’. I didn’t care about the time, my focus was on the distance. The goal I had in mind was 15km but I was open to anything 5km+.

At 5.2km into the run, my watch died (A blessing in disguise). This meant, instead of continually looking at my watch, worrying about my distance and time, I listened… Listened to my body! (And my great playlist) 😜 I continued on with my run, mapped out my return and managed to complete 11.5 km… My longest run since January.

The lesson:

Don’t let your subconscious get the better of you! My headaches were no longer there… They were only in my head (No pun intended). By changing my mindset and the story I was telling myself, I was able to reconnect with my running and prove myself wrong.

This week:

I want you to change your story and change your internal dialogue, I’m confident that you can therefore, change the result!

STOP with the subconscious mind games and STOP doubting your ability. Instead, START placing your attention on what you CAN achieve and FOCUSon what you want!

Moral of this story:

Change your language, change your mindset and change your result.
